Kristin KorbBassist and vocalistImagine a player who sings in the tradition of Ella Fitzgerald and Sarah Vaughan and plays the bass with the authority and swing of the great Ray Brown. With these and many other strong influences, Kristin Korb has created a style and presence all her own. Kristin Korb is not just a singing bassist. She is a premier singer with a personal approach and a deep sense of swing. Allaboutjazz.com writes,“She's got a beautiful, natural alto voice, and superb pitch. Her bass playing is as solid as an oak trunk and her timbre on the instrument is full of both fundamentals and color.” Kristin Korb earned a degree in Music Education at Eastern Montana College in 1992 and spent the next two years earning her masters in Classical Bass Performance at the University of California in San Diego. She took lessons from Bertram Turetzky who inspired her to sing and play bass at the same time. In 1994 she met and started studying with Ray Brown, who recorded her debut, introducing Kristin Korb, the following year with the Ray Brown Trio on Telarc Records. Apart from bassist Ray Brown the CD also featured pianist Benny Green and drummer Gregory Hutchinson. Guest artists included Conte Candoli, Plas Johnson and Oscar Castro-Neves. In 1996-2000 Korb taught jazz history, bass and the vocal jazz ensemble at Grossmont Community College, and in 2000-2002 she was the Director of Jazz Studies at Central Washington University.
